Smile Power

When you are working hard, you have a shine on your face, your eyes are sparkling with animation. Above all, your smile is dazzling.

For this reason, I wrote a slogan that "Smile power" and posted it on the wall of my company's offices. The slogan has a good reputation especially from a female staff. 　

As the proverb says, "Laugh and grow fat." The validity of this proverb is now demonstrated scientifically. Laugh is good for health.

Recently, Fukui prefecture made up a promo word that "Fukui, a prefecture with healthy and long living people." In fact, Fukui people has the Japan's longest life spans. Fukui is now trying to promote this fact and appeal to many people living in the other areas of Japan.

Why are Fukui people so healthy? A key to answering this question may be found in medical researches of laugh. Recently, it was clarified that laugh activates natural killer cells, which destroy cancer cells. Furthermore, it was also medically established that laugh is effective in the treatment of diabetes; it is said that laugh can decrease blood glucose levels.

The department of health promotion in the Fukui government is now planning to invite medical doctors and researchers and hold a lecture series about the relationship of laugh to health. In addition, they are planning to host Rakugo-kai [comin storytelling in Japanese traditional style] in various locations of Fukui. They are also have a plan to provide Fukui Health Walfare centers with VHS tapes of Rakugo. They seem to really believe "Laugh more, live more." Government officials have carried a negative image as a sort of persons who would be ultraconservative and stubborn. However, the idea of Rakugo is clever and solicitous for them.

Fukui people has a reputation for their patience, which sometimes interfers with their good laugh. But remember, a good laugh makes not only the others happy, but also the laugher herself healthy and happy. Let's laugh and smile. I smile a lot. My wife says to me that my smile has an instant effect on business negotiations. The power of business is reduced to the power of smile. This seems to be the secret of business success.
